CREATION & COMMUNITY

The Beeloved Community Garden was conceived to provide space for pollination of flowers by insects and of relationships by people.

The name is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's vision of a world where love will transform, redeem, and bring people together in a new way.

Located just a block from NC State University, the site is easily accessible to students and families who live in the neighborhood as well as those visiting campus or attending events at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church just across the street. Benches, tables, and paths make this an ideal place to sit and enjoy God's creation and each other's company.

Our Garden Bee Colony
Hank's Story

In the early fall of 2020, Alice Hinman of Apiopolis got a call about an open air honey bee hive very high up in a tree above the preschool at Fuquay Varina Baptist Church. If the bees were not rescued they would not survive the winter. Alice worked hard calling everyone she knew to gather the resources needed to rescue the hive.

On October 2, thanks to a unique partnership between the church, United Rental, Toxic Free and Apiopolis, a boom lift took her high up in the tree where she removed the colony and placed it in a box. After a month of feeding and care to strengthen the colony, the bees were relocated to the Beeloved Community Garden!

The hive they live in is specially designed by Alice and built by Flitch Furniture to better imitate the tree cavities wild honey bees live in. The colony is named Hank after a long time volunteer at Toxic Free NC. Stop by the garden and visit Hank.
