Come Worship!  Sunday School for all ages at 9:45 am and Worship at 11:00 am

WRPC is heading to Kinston on September 23 and 24 to support Hurricane Matthew recovery along with the New Hope Presbytery’s Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) efforts.

Residence in Kinston being repaired by K.A.R.E.Hurricane Matthew hit North Carolina on October 8th, 2016. FEMA estimates there remains more than $30M of unmet household property damage repairs in NC, mostly in eastern NC. The New Hope Presbytery through the PDA adopted five counties in our Presbytery to support. Of the five, Lenoir was the hardest hit when the Neuse river and flash flooding did $1.4M+ in unmet household property damage. WRPC has begun working with Lenoir County to provide aid and send a mission team to help with the recovery.

K.A.R.E. and First Presbyterian Church of Kinston

In April of this year a local PDA office was setup in Kinston to begin coordinating hurricane relief and mission teams to the area. The office was named K.A.R.E, Kinston Area Recovery Efforts and is located in downtown Kinston. First Presbyterian Church of Kinston has opened its doors to mission team willing to come and work. They converted two Sunday School classrooms into living quarters with 22 bunks. They also converted two bathrooms into a two shower bathroom facility. Mrs. Katherine Harper is the host coordinator for mission teams staying at First Presbyterian Church of Kinston.

Current Projects

Mission team from the Presbyterian church in Henderson, NC working at the residence on June 12, 2017K.A.R.E has a FEMA supplied list of 100+ homes in Lenoir that need some sort of rebuilding. Most of the clean up and tear down to the properties has been done. The biggest needs at this point are putting in sub-flooring/flooring, new drywall, carpentry and painting. K.A.R.E. will work with mission teams to match the skill sets of the group to available projects. Teams can have a mix of skill levels. Experience with construction is preferred and greatly appreciated. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older. Mr. Ken Hare is the construction manager for all K.A.R.E. projects.
