Ministries

feltdovesLearn more about the current activities and feature artists of the Arts Ministry!

We are called by God to be artists of a new creation. This creative vocation is a sign of the new life that is ours in Jesus Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we have received gifts of imagination, creativity, of poetry and song, of dance, drama and vision. How will you use those sacred gifts? We hope that you will be inspired as you seek to respond to your creative calling.

Our new caring ministry which focuses on serious illness and end of life is available for anyone who asks.  If you would like to learn more about getting involved please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Participants in Circle of Love develop friendships across generational lines. Members who can no longer come to church for worship or activities are able to stay connected to the congregation through those who faithfully visit and build relationships. This is a great outreach opportunity for families or anyone wishing to befriend someone who might otherwise feel isolated.  If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Churches are all about nourishment – soul and body! This group takes feeding seriously!  Every second Sunday, this team prepares a delicious luncheon which the congregation enjoys following worship.

There are some very special occasions where they are able to go all out, such as at the All-Church Dinner on the second Sunday of Advent. This meal has been generously paid for by a member so that everyone attending may enjoy the feast and festivity!

If you love to cook, this is your ministry! Others are needed to clean up following each meal. Training is provided. Whether cooking or cleaning up, this is a great time of fellowship.  If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Martha MinistryMartha, the ministry's namesake, is the sister of Mary and Lazarus. In the biblical reference, she is doing something practical (Luke 10:40, John 11:20, 28, and 39: 12:2). Having said that, the Martha Ministry was founded to be an active and confidential aid within the West Raleigh church family.

This ministry should not be confused with the Stephen Ministry, which lends a listening ear whereas the Martha Ministry lends a hand.

Members may need assistance for reasons ranging from illness to bad weather. Whatever the reason, the Martha Ministry will try to provide the needed services. Volunteers deliver meals, provide transportation, and help with convalescent care, cut the grass – small things that make a big difference for someone needing some extra support.

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry entails knitting shawls to give to those who are in need of comfort, healing, and help. Shawls are made and blessed before being given away. Those who receive them are wrapped and enfolded with prayers for protection and health, strength and consolation. Stephen Ministry Logo CFFThe Stephen Ministry's Core Purpose is summed up in the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians:

To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ
Ephesians 4:12-13

Stephen Ministers are lay persons with fifty hours of training who wish to serve Christ by serving others in their time of need. A Stephen Minister is not a counselor or a pastor, but rather a listening presence for someone in the middle of a physical or emotional crisis. Stephen Ministers are matched with a person experiencing a hardship of life and usually meet with this person for an hour each week until the crisis has passed.

Stephen Ministers are trained in confidentiality and never reveal their care receiver's identity or concerns to anyone... not even their spouse. They continue to gather twice a month for peer supervision and continuing education. In this way, they receive encouragement, fellowship, and enrichment to maintain the best possible Christian care for their care receivers.
