Executive Director of More Light Presbyterians
West Raleigh has always seen and defined itself as a welcoming congregation, embracing and honoring all God’s people in the full life of the church. West Raleigh is also a church that seeks to know better so that we can do better. Toward that end, the Mission, Peace & Justice Committee and the Worship Committee with the blessing of the Session has invited Rev. Alex McNeill, Executive Director of More Light Presbyterians for a (now virtual) visit the weekend this weekend.
During his tenure at More Light, Alex has equipped many congregations to live into their commitment to be a safe and welcoming place for LGBTQIA+ people and their families. Alex is also the first openly transgender man ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are grateful for his witness among us!
Rev. McNeill’s visit begins on Saturday with a workshop titled, Ministry Beyond the Binary: Equipping Ourselves for Ministry with LGBTQIA+ Communities. Rev. McNeill will then preach on Sunday, offering a theological foundation for how the Scriptures bear witness to a God whose love is boundless. After worship, we are all invited to a Lunch & Learn to keep talking about how West Raleigh can grow in our witness of hospitality and welcome. Finally, Alex’s visit culminates with Youth Group Sunday evening. Rev. McNeill will guide us through the theological foundation and the tangible opportunities for expressing the broadness of God’s love, particularly in the pursuit of becoming a welcoming church. All are welcome!
