West Raleigh PC is seeking a Director of Administration & Communication. This position is a professional, full-time, salaried, exempt position that reports to the pastor.

West Raleigh is seeking a staff person who can effectively manage the office, support both staff and volunteers in faithful and efficient administration; and direct internal and external communications that reflect the congregation’s energy and vision with solid theological language using contemporary platforms.  

Salary & Benefits: Hiring range is $35,000-$40,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance option, and a retirement plan.

Description of the Congregation: West Raleigh Presbyterian Church is a 300 member congregation that sits at the corner of Vanderbilt and Horne Streets, one block off Hillsborough and across the street from North Carolina State University. West Raleigh is a university church that has always been home to Presbyterian Campus Ministry Raleigh. The congregation is also home to vibrant arts and music ministries; intentional Christian formation programs for children, youth and adults; a web of Congregational Care ministries and remains committed to ministries of mission, peace & justice.


  • Support the Pastor, Director of Christian Formation and Director of Music.
  • Assist the Clerk of Session and the Administration Committee in maintaining accurate records, both digital and paper for ecclesial and administrative purposes. Help keep West Raleigh Dropbox organized and up-to-date.
  • Assist the Building & Grounds Committee and the Sexton to schedule routine maintenance as well as special projects as needed
  • Maintain church database (using ACS Realm Dashboard) and publish West Raleigh Directory annually.
  • Maintain the church calendar; schedule rooms for groups within the congregation; and oversee Building Use Contracts when appropriate.
  • Recruit & equip volunteers to serve as receptionists during busy times of the week/year.
  • Work with the Stewardship & Finance Committee to produce the materials for the annual Commitment (Pledging) Season and prepare the Annual Report.
  • Work with the Personnel Committee to maintain employee handbooks, keep time sheets for non-exempt employees, and oversee the annual cycle of benefits enrollment through Benefits Connect (PCUSA).
  • Additional responsibilities and projects to be added based on the needs of the church and interest of the staff person.                


  • Coordinate the information and production of the bulletins, weekly electronic newsletter, website, social media and the bulletin boards, finding the most efficient and effective ways to provide information to church members and the community.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to various committees within the church providing print and web graphics; and serves as consultant on all communication projects as needed.
  • Develop an external communications strategy in conjunction with member support to increase West Raleigh’s presence in the community.
  • Ensure that all publications and website reflect appropriately the mission of West Raleigh.
  • Create/obtain approval of various policies related to communications and publications for the church, for example the Security and Privacy Policies, Audio/Visual Policies, etc.
  • Manage incoming announcements to determine most appropriate sphere for sharing them. Look ahead to upcoming events to ensure they are promoted within the church and community.
  • Evaluate existing communications media to determine efficacy, growing edges or alternatives.


  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Professional and have experience with databases (ACS Realm Dashboard), email marketing tools (Constant Contact), social media and WordPress
  • Familiarity with office machines (copier, printer, projector, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable coordinating and supporting volunteers.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Needs to be proficient in producing and editing print and web communications
  • Must be a self-motivated problem-solver who shows strong initiative
  • Must be experienced in a fast-paced environment with excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including attention to detail and ability to prioritize responsibilities
  • Must have the ability to work discreetly with confidential information
  • Must have a work ethic that is both positive and team oriented
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent work experience

Strongly Preferred:

  • Church (or non-profit) experience and/or theological training
